AWP Announces Tribal College Fellowship Program for Faculty and Students

The Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) launched the Tribal Colleges and Universities Fellowship Program at the #AWP25 Conference and Bookfair in Los Angeles, California, and recently wrapped up a successful second year of the program at #AWP26 in Baltimore, Maryland. Now, AWP is seeking applicants for the third-year cohort of faculty and students from tribal colleges and universities (TCUs) involved in creative writing.

In this fellowship program, faculty from TCUs will work with students through mentorship to create and share original work at each annual AWP conference and bookfair. With the help of generous donations, current fellowships will send fellows to the 2027 AWP Conference and Bookfair in Chicago, Illinois. TCU faculty awarded a fellowship will receive a $4,000 honorarium and TCU students will receive a $500 stipend for on-site expenses. Round-trip expense and lodging for the duration of the conference will be covered by AWP.

To be eligible for this fellowship, applicants must be an active TCU faculty (part- or full-time) or a current TCU student (undergraduate or graduate) with an involvement or interest in creative writing.
